Mr President... Who's in Charge?

Weapons Going to Ukraine are Under Someone's Control.... But No One Knows Who

It's a fair question. Who is running the show in the White House? On matters of national security, war-and-peace, of making major decisions in arming or not arming a partner, of whether there is or is not sufficient stocks of key ammunition categories for our own national defense... When directly asked who was the decision-maker for ordering a suspension in the delivery of interceptor missiles for Ukraine, the President would not - or could not - answer the question. This implies that a decision of major importance and consequence was made by someone other than the president. Trump did reverse it - three times thus far in his short tenure - but so far as we know in the public, no one has been reprimanded or censured. This further implies that Trump has freelancers in his inner circle, people who are making decisions on U.S. foreign policy without Trump's permission or knowledge. That he hasn't fired anyone, communicates that there is little cost to bypassing the president. That is a very dangerous situation indeed. I don't know who made those decisions, but I know it wasn't the man legally elected president by the U.S. public. I actually agree, strongly, that we should halt all deliveries of weapons, bc clearly the outflow of ammunition is depleting the stockpiles of weapons necessary for our own national security. But I do not condone a situation whereby unelected officials are able to call shots for our security bypassing the president. That needs to stop quickly, and Trump needs to get a much tighter control over his team.
