Ukraine's a FOREVER WAR /Lt Col Daniel Davis & Chas Freeman

We dig into Trump’s proposed August 8 ceasefire deadline, which Freeman calls unserious and performative.

Welcome to this episode of Daniel Davis Deep Dive. Today, I sit down with former Ambassador Chas Freeman for a sobering, unfiltered look at the state of U.S. diplomacy—especially in Ukraine and Russia.

Ambassador Freeman doesn’t hold back. He argues that Western foreign policy has become performative, dishonest, and dangerously disconnected from reality. According to Freeman, it’s Ukraine—not Russia—that has refused negotiations, while the U.S. continues to equate diplomacy with weakness and military action with strength.

We explore the missed opportunity for peace in 2022, when a Russia–Ukraine agreement brokered in Istanbul was reportedly sabotaged by the West—particularly the U.K. under Boris Johnson. Freeman suggests the war’s continuation serves Western geopolitical interests more than Ukraine’s.

He also takes aim at the propaganda machine: inflated casualty figures, ignored corruption, and a media narrative shaped by unreliable sources. Russia’s goals, Freeman says, have been consistent since 2021—yet U.S. officials like Secretary Blinken never truly engaged.

We dig into Trump’s proposed August 8 ceasefire deadline, which Freeman calls unserious and performative. He points out that Russia, advancing militarily and economically, has no incentive to halt. Meanwhile, the Trump team’s reliance on untrained envoys with no diplomatic expertise only deepens the dysfunction.

Freeman also dismantles the myth of sanctions. Despite years of pressure, Russia’s economy has grown—now reportedly surpassing Germany’s in PPP terms—and its military production is surging.

Bottom line: Freeman sees a systemic failure in Western diplomacy—driven by delusion, coercion, and theatrical gestures. From Ukraine to Gaza, Iran to China, the U.S. is fueling endless conflict while eroding its credibility at home and abroad.

It’s a powerful conversation—and one that demands attention. Let’s dive in.
